Meagan Smallbeck, nominated by Sports Mama, Becky Smallbeck, is our Athlete of the Day!

Tell us about Meagan’s achievement:

Never underestimate a walk-on athlete. Our daughter just got done competing for Central WA University as a freshman hammer thrower. She was not recruited by CWU nor did she receive any scholarship money. She was, however, recruited by a couple of other DII schools. but had her heart set on CWU.

She contacted the head coach, walked on the team, had an amazing throwing coach and athletic trainer but had a rough second half of outdoor season with tendinitis.

This past weekend at the GNAC conference championships, she threw 3 PR’s putting her in 3rd place as a freshman with all-conference honors. She has been quite the headstrong pain in the butt to raise (at times) but it served her well to rise and follow her dreams.

Tell us about a character trait Meagan has that you admire:

Perseverance. She’s always been a strong-willed child. Sometimes in our favor and sometimes not. She has shown me what can happen when you keep following your passion.

Tell us one thing you want your athlete to know:

Meagan, you’re full of passion. Passion for life, passion for helping people and passion for following your dreams. You’ve shown me what overcoming an injury and following your passion can lead to.

Congrats, Meagan!
